House League Rules and Guidelines

As per respective Little League Rule Book with the following additions and amendments:

  1. All games are 7 innings.  Canadians are 6 innings.

  2. Curfew: No new inning to start after 8:30 PM.

  3. All games are to be played to their duration when possible; tie games should be avoided. Once the game starts the umpire will have sole authority in calling a game due to weather or darkness.

  4. Home team will occupy the 3rd base dugout.

  5. Home team to supply 2 new game balls and suitable used balls as needed.

  6. Home team to supply 2 umpires per game in Junior/Senior and 1 umpire per game in Canadians (2 umpires preferred)

  7. The 10 run rule is mandatory after 5 innings or 4½ if the home team is ahead. CANADIANS: 5 runs per inning max.  4 innings OR 3 ½ if home team is ahead.

  8. All players are to be in full uniform including matching hats.

  9. There is unlimited substitutions EXCEPT FOR THE PITCHER, and bat through the order. NO PLAYER shall sit for more than 2 innings in a row

  10. Rainouts, cancelled, or suspended games must be re-scheduled within 48 hours by the home team and played within 2 weeks. Home team must also re-schedule umpires.

  11. An injured player who is removed from the game may re-enter the game once, provided that he re-enters in the same batting order and plays 3 defensive outs before becoming a batter.

  12. The player ratio to coaches on the bench is waived FOR REGULAR SEASON ONLY. Example: rule says 12 players on roster only 2 coaches on bench or 13 players then 3 coaches allowed on bench. This rule in house league is waived, but in ALL STAR will be in enforced. MAXIMUM COACHES ON BENCH WILL BE 3. There must always be at least ONE adult coach on the bench.

  13. No game can be played under protest. If a coach protests a rule then it must be resolved before the game resumes. The final say will come from the League Umpire in Chief if not available then the District Umpire in Chief and if not available the District Administrator.

  14. WEATHER RULE. On game day if it has been raining or is raining before the game, by 5 pm the two coaches must both decide to cancel and the HOME team calls their Umpire Allocator to cancel the game and UMPIRES.

  15. If the temp is 5° Celsius or LESS between 4:00pm and 5:00pm MST including wind chill there will be no games. Go to www.edmontonlittleleague.org and click on weather icon in upper right hand corner of home page to find out temperature. Call the other coach and HOME team must call the Home team umpire to advise of the cancellation.

  16. If canceled games are not made up in time and the coaches cannot agree on times then it must be reported to the Director of your league and if Directors cannot agree it is referred to the District Administrator for a final ruling.

  17. Games start at 6:30 PM SHARP!! A player arriving late can enter the game upon arrival. Less than 8 players will be a forfeited game (7-0 loss). If a team has eight players, the 9th player is an automatic out. If it becomes a forfeited game an exhibition game may be played with no winner being declared.

  18. Bats maximum barrel diameter is 2 5/8 inch with a –3 drop.

  19. It is recommended all players’ wear batting helmet straps while at bat, base running or base coaching.

  20. No Major [age 12] players may be picked up. No pick up players will be allowed to pitch. Pick up players may be brought up from lower levels but these players must be from your respective league. Seniors may pick up from Junior or Canadians. Juniors may pick up only age 13 and 14 year olds from Canadians. In all cases it must be with the consent of the parents and the house league coach. Note on the score sheet of any pick up players.

  21. Junior League – up to and including Sunday May 17 the bases will be 80 feet with pitching rubber 54 feet. On Monday May 18 the bases will be as the rule book at 90 feet with pitching rubber at 60ft 6 in. Cdn will play the bases at 80 feet and pitching rubber 54 feet ALL SEASON LONG.

  22. Pitching – PITCH COUNT RULE IS IN EFFECT. GO TO WEB PAGE AT www.edmontonlittleleague.org. Click on 2009 Schedules, Rules, pitch count & Standings. Scroll down to Pitch Count Regulations. We are using Option 1 on Page 35 as per the 2009 Little League Baseball Rule Book. For Cdn no age 16 or older player may pitch.

REMEMBER:

1. A Pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.

2. If a pitcher chooses to intentionally walk a batter, the number of pitches will be counted.

3. For pitchers league age 16 and under, if a pitcher pitches 61 or more pitches in a day, 3 calendar days of rest AND a game must be observed.


At the end of each game the teams and coaches will meet at home plate and shake hands. The plate umpire will sign both teams score sheet and make sure the SCORES AND PITCH COUNT PER PITCHER IS AGREED TO BY BOTH TEAMS. WINNING TEAM MUST POST GAME SCORES AND PITCH COUNT ON INTERNET WITHIN 24 HRS. Losing team must acknowledge scores and pitch count within 24 hours. Any posting errors of score or pitch count must be reported to info@edmontonlittleleague.org immediately.
